Impedance matching: Correct impedance matching between the cartridge and the preamplifier is essential for obtaining the optimum sound quality. The 838 is equipped with parallel connected phono sockets into which adaptor plugs with a wide selection of resistive and capacitance values can be inserted. This system allows unrivaled flexibility in impedance matching. It is possible to specify virtually any value for moving-coil cartridges, say between 3 and 1000 ohms.
Input sensitivity: Underneath the 838 are externally mounted sensitivity switches allowing 8 input sensitivities to be selected. Accurately setting the appropriate input sensitivity will assist you in obtaining the best signal-to-noise ratio and overload margin.
Volume control: This precision stepped attenuator is exceptional and guarantees absolute channel balance.
0 dB, -3 dB switch: With this switch it is possible to increase the range of the volume control by a factor of 2.
The massive power supply has a separate transformer for each channel.
